A new or nearly new box spring can support a latex mattress for a time, but if it is poor quality or more than five years old, we don’t recommend using one. The springs in a box spring will weaken. This causes the mattress to sag and not support your spine properly.
Savvy Rest foundations are made with untreated pine and covered with the same material our mattress is encased in—certified organic wool fiber quilted between two layers of certified organic cotton fabric. The wool fiber is a natural flame retardant. The slats are ¾-inch thick and 2¾ inches wide, and spaced 2 1/2 to 3 inches apart. These are probably the stongest foundations on the market. Foundations are available in a standard (9-inch) height or low profile (5-inch).
If you have a bed frame that normally accommodates a box spring, a Savvy Rest foundation simply fits in where a box spring would. They come in all standard sizes, and we can customize any length or width, or any height between 3 and 12 inches.
If you have a platform bed with flat slats, you don't need a foundation at all. A latex mattress is placed directly onto a platform bed's slats.

The Savvy Rest organic mattress wants to go on a rigid surface. Sometimes we are asked if our mattress can be put on the floor. The answer is "yes," but not for an extended period of time, and not in a damp location.
